Course Two:

Many of the issues that Sexological Bodyworkers encounter are related to unhealthy erotic self regulation and the Genital Hole. Indicators of genital numbness include lack of physical sensation, checking out emotionally during sex, boring and routine sex lives, pain during arousal, guilt and shame, and the need to fantasize or watch porn to become aroused. Another indicator may be the inability to remember sexual experiences or the feeling states associated with those experiences. The tragedy of the Genital Hole is that most individuals are not even aware that they have a diminished capacity for feeling pleasure. The numbing of genital neurology is almost always unconscious.

Sexological Bodyworkers directly address the Genital Hole by teaching and coaching mindful sexual practices, especially Orgasmic Yoga. Reclaiming erotic capacities through erotic practice is not as easy as it may seem. We live in a culture where there is an epidemic of disembodiment. Our placement of attention is seldom on our own embodied selves. So much of our lives are not physically lived, not felt, not engaged. We live outside of our bodies on the Internet, watching television, speaking by phone and texting. Noticing what is happening in our bodies is foundational for embodiment. Witnessing a student’s erotic practice session is a powerful alternative to coaching.
